Birthday Party Event Entertainer Protocol

So you are headed to your first event! Congratulations, this is an exciting time!
You have packed everything you can think of, and wish the kitchen sink would fit in your arsenal, alas, you have more than you need..or do you?

It is fantastic that you have your material supplies, but here is a full check list of some of the services, and addtional must haves you need to be equipped with to blow this client away!
After all, we want to be invited back again and again!

1. Have you confirmed event details and mapped out your event?

It is important to be sure and check your agreement, and the address at least one full day ahead of schedule. You may find that you are missing a key detail or that the address does not appear on your GPS.

2. Are you groomed nicely?

Our appearance plays a large role in first impressions. If we are in jeans, or clothing with graphics, we may not be taken seriously and not treated professionally. We recommend black slacks and a nice collared or graphic free blouse/shirt, along with close toed shoes. Hair and general appearance should appeal to a date. So imagine you are on a date. Always dress to impress!

3. Did you arrive early?

You are paid by the hour, and your client is charged by the hour. Just as you wish to get paid for every minute you work, your client wants every minute worth of their event fee. Being late to a one or two hour party leaves a client feeling jipped and often dissapointed. Being late also puts pressure on you as you and the host are getting off to the wrong foot. You now need to extend the original time or rush to provide your services in the remaining time.

4. Did we seek out and greet our client?

It is important that your busy host know you are there! If you assume the person who greeted you is your host, you are mistaken. More often than not it is a coworker, friend, or family member. The host is hosting, they are usually not by the door. Introducing yourself is a must. It shows the host that you were timely, and allows them to place you where they wish, while offerering you the chance to ask them what they expect or wish from todays experience.

5. How was your attitude?

If you had a rough day, or hit a snarl with traffic, or answered a call and received bad news...your client certainly does not need to know. They have planned this special once a year event for weeks or months. They are juggling alot, and your job is to take some of that pressure from them and show their guests a good time leaving everyone with a powerful and memorable experience worth mentioning.

6. Just before your event ends, check in!

Ok time is almost up, and you are keeping rack, but is your client? Not usually. They need to be made aware that you are nearing completion. They may have a last request and waiting until your time is up will extend their party which they may not want.
In addition, sometimes extra guests show up wanting to experience your service. If you anticipate your event will go over due to the extra guests, this overtime needs to be client approved first. Following this protocol permits billing them overtime as you now have permission to do so.

7. Say goodnight, thank them for having you and offer business cards!

Hey they have friends, and you just advertised our services on all those little billboards! You have left an impression, now leave your contact information! We want this party to turn into multiple opportunities. This is paid marketing! We must take advantage!

Following the above protocol also ensures the highest success rate in receiving a gratuity. That is certainly worth putting this into practice!
