A super cool note from the Director:
Dear Friends of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences:

Last week the NC Museum of Natural Sciences was named No. 1 for the 2012 annual ranking of North Carolina's most visited museums and historic attractions.  It's the first change in the top spot during the nine years of the survey, conducted by Carolina Publishing Associates.

The announcement of this ranking comes two weeks after the Museum was named as a finalist for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the highest honor for institutions that make significant and exceptional contributions to their communities.

These numbers reflect the success of our mission and a measure of the need for what we provide. We are bringing science closer to the community, and the community - the educational system and the public - is responding with great enthusiasm.

Here's a small way you can help spread the word about our success in engaging every level of learning with the wonders of science:  Please go to the facebook page for the Institute ofMuseum and Library Services (IMLS), and tell your favorite story about the Museum of Natural Sciences -  www.facebook.com/USIMLS.

Whether it was a child's discovery, getting to know who else calls North Carolina home, a Science Café presentation, a teacher trek, or watching surgery on a rattlesnake, please share your memories.

I take this special opportunity to express appreciation for all you do to advance the Museum's mission. Please share our pride in this national announcement and kindly continue to be our ambassador in your network.
