St. Patrick's Day is the Feast Day of St.Patrick, a commemoration of the arrival of Chritianity in Ireland
St. Patrick was born Maewyn Succat in Scotland or Wales around 370 A.D. His parents, Calpurnius and Conchessa, were Romans living in Britain at the time. As a teenager, Maewyn was kidnapped and sold into slavery in Ireland, where he worked as a shepherd. It was during that time he began to have religious visions and dreams. Those dreams eventually lead to his freedom and pursuit of ordanement. Maewyn changed his name to Patrick, which means "father of his people". Patrick's humility, engaging personality, and knowledge of the social structure in Ireland helped his religious mission succeed. Eventually he made his headquarters at Armagh, in present-day Northern Ireland. By the time of his death on March 17 around 461 A.D. and 490 A.D., Ireland was almost entirely Christian. St. Patrick is Ireland's patron saint.
Legend says, that St, Patrick used a 3 leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to Irish people.
It is considered very lucky to see a Leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day. Keep your eyes peeled for a short little man dressed in a red or green suit with buckles a beard and a hat. He stores his gold and may share some with you. Keep your eyes firmly squared on him for if you break the stare, he will slip away and you will not share his gold nor have any wishes granted.
