How to maximize your potential tip earnings

                          Lets Talk About Tips
Here are the do's and don't's on tipping protocol

  1. DO confirm that tips are ok at your particular event first.
  2. DON'T have a tip jar that reads "tip me." That goes for buttons and signs too. Its too forward.
  3. DO have a tip jar that reads "Tips Appreciated"  or "Gratuities", this language is more appropriate.
  4. DON'T expect tips. Tipping is not an obligation, they don't have to do it. That means announcing that you accept tips is out of the question.
  5. DO provide your highest level of service and attentiveness to each patron, and set yourself up for tip success.

Increase your tips using the following techniques
  • When making change, try and give back a few singles. Patrons are happier to part with smaller bills.
  • When handing them change, pass it over the tip jar if possible. It will work as a reminder to patrons.
  • Fan out the change like you would a deck of cards, body language like this may register with the patron to leave a tip.
  • Take your time to count their change (but DON'T take too long).  Reasons: 1.) to ensure you provide correct change  2.) They may suggest you keep the change.
  • Always spike your tip jar. No one wants to be the first to leave a tip. So, take a couple bills throw them in the jar and let them grow.

You are a valuable team member! Keep up the excellent work!
