Our youngest Company Mascot and daughter Olivia is half Asian and half White with the most stubborn hair.
We have tried curling her hair using many different and unsuccessful methods, including hot rollers, irons, crimpers and the like.
Today Olivias kindergarten classroom is celebrating 100 days of school with a Princess Ball! We had to get it right this time, as she was set to be Snow White....
After a little research, and in an effort to use a method that wouldn't damage hair, we decided to try "rag rolling" which is a vintage technique dating back to the early 19th century.
Here is how our experiment worked.
First we cut 1" X 5" strips of an old clean "rag" or in our case a kitchen towel.
We then seperated her hair into 1 - 1.5 inch sections and used rubber bands to tie them close to the root. (not too tight)
Next we wet and rolled the ends of her hair first, around the rag and continued to the base of her head and tied the rags just once.
(do not knot, it will be too difficult to remove later)
Olivia slept overnight with her rags in, which proved to be very comfortable to sleep on, especially for a child.
"Am I all done?!" This process does take a good part of an hour!
BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!
Our results were astonishing! As you can see we got more than we could have asked for!!! Olivias hair is super curly.

We simply ran our fingers through her hair and then set it with a light layer of mouse.
A pretty red ribbon and a little fantasy makeup to finish!
Have fun at the Ball Olivia!
We tried this with Olivias older sister... Here are her results:)
